[Q] Root Samsung Galaxy Ace Duos "SCH-I589"

I'm in the need of space on the internal storage and unfortunately Samsung SCH-I589 comes with very limited internal space. Due to this I'm not even able to update the default applications, from Google Play Store, that comes with the phone e.g. hangout, maps, youtube etc. as the internal storage is almost full.

There are certain internal applications and ringtones that I'm not interested in and want to remove/uninstall. Therefore, I followed the instructions posted at the following URL to root the device:

The "update.zip" installed successfully. Thereafter, I installed "ES File Explorer" from Google Play Store and tried to remove the ringtones first. Using this application I'm able to access /system/media/audio/ringtones but when I try to remove any file I get an error stating that the file cannot be removed.

I was wondering if I'm missing something in this process. Is my phone indeed is rooted? What is stopping "ES File Explorer" from deleting/removing the default applications/ringtones?

I highly appreciate any help in this regard. Thank you.
